Do You Love to Draw

If you love to draw, then you are fortunate indeed. Doodling, drawing, coloring, and painting all have satisfying outcomes. The flow of letting your imagination loose on the blank paper can be very satisfying in the long run.

I like to keep my drawings and use them to create stories. I organize them into themes and go from there. At the moment, I am starting with small steps and using an hour after my morning coffee to make some art. I try not to judge it. I walk away and come back later to see how I can keep it going. I learn a lot about myself this way.

One way to do the art each day is with a large sketchbook for an art journal. Portable and friendly, this method allows you to take the journal with you. Later, on review, you might find some of your earlier drawing would be good for illustrations or for pursuing a direction that they now suggest.

Recently, I made an exercise where I took some old and some new pieces and put them on the page. My goal was to connect them with a story. This way they became illustrations after the fact. I made a book and a simple PDF to share with the FaceBook Groups to which I belong. Then I was able to take the story into iBooks Author and publish it through Apple. I am happy to announce that A Story Made From Pictures has become an iBook.

I was also directed to a FaceBook group called The Creative Fire Cafe, a creation of artist Aprille Janes. This is a community of cheerful and supportive artists where I can talk about my process, post bits and pieces and feel I have some like minded friends to share with. Just this alone has given me a boost to create a place in the house where I can draw and watercolor. Anyone looking for a creative home is welcome to join this group.
